Afterwards, the police find the man who robbed the food truck and Travis lies when he's asked to ID the man at the police station. Daphne finds out that Travis wants personal revenge against the guy.

Meanwhile, the Kennish kids are roped into helping out with John's campaign. Toby meets Elisa, a volunteer who turns out to be the daughter of the opposing candidate. Bay tells Emmett that she's in a new relationship, but he kisses her. Regina is fired from her new job after the first day and turns to alcohol after being sober for many years.

While Toby bonds with Elisa, discord breaks out at Carlton when the deaf students oppose the pilot program for hearing students, leaving Daphne feeling trapped in the middle. After she talks to the school board, she tells Kathryn that they decided to close Carlton.

Regina confronts Bay about telling Zane about her being an alcoholic and angrily scolds her for it. Bay, severely hurt, forgives Regina for her outburst after she comes to her room to apologize. The two then decide to keep it secret and Regina promises to go back to her classes and get help. However, she goes back on her word when she leaves a voicemail for her sponsor and then deletes the message instead of sending it. Now Bay and Daphne must deal with this shocking discovery as their families struggle to accept each other for the sake of the girls.

Angelo uses his new money to buy presents for the families, which include a food truck for Daphne. Bay is accused of cheating on her French test. Bay convinces John and Kathryn to let her attend Carlton's pilot program for siblings of deaf students. Toby starts dating Nikki, but distances himself from her when Emmett shows him a scandalous photo of her online.

Kathryn possibly hurts John's campaign during a radio interview, while Melody forces the students to go on a retreat to help bridge the divide between them. Bay struggles to adapt to her changing relationship with Angelo, while Daphne sees a different side to Travis and considers taking their relationship to another level.

Daphne feels awkward around Travis, while Kathryn offers to work at Carlton in an attempt to get closer to Bay. Daphne continues to hide the truth from her parents, while Bay gets closer to Noah. Daphne makes a decision about Travis, while Bay and Noah's relationship blossoms. Bay confronts Daphne with her suspicions about Regina, and Daphne gets cast in the school play.

In this episode entirely done in ASL, the kids at Carlton plan a sit-in to convince the board to keep Carlton open and both Bay and Melody are caught in the middle. Regina agrees to get help, John's senate race ends and Bay and Daphne are at odds over Noah.
